Ayaka Kamei left her homeland Japan at the age of 15 to study at ballet schools in Canada, San Francisco, and Cannes, where she discovered contemporary dance as her form of expression.

Her professional career began in 2010 with a six-year engagement at the Noism Company Niigata in Japan. In 2016, she moved to Germany and danced for eight years with the Dance Company Theater Osnabrück.

Inspired by working with choreographers such as Rainer Behr, Fernando Suels Mendoza (both Pina Bausch dancers), Maciej Kuźmiński, or Adi Salant (Batsheva Company), she developed her own dance language.

TSince 2024 she is a freelance dancer and choreographer, and a certificated Dynamic Phrasing teacher for “Movement Research” and “Task Basket”.

In addition to her stage engagements, she gives workshops and shares her experiences to inspire people for contemporary dance.
